Sharing lunch with Adam Gilchrist was quite surreal- no relation to set the record straight!
Adam…not Darryll, in his day was the world’s top opening batsman, wicket keeper and the most exciting batsman to watch. He holds many records for bat and glove including most dismissals by a wicket keeper. He was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame plus Sport Australia Hall of Fame- how incredible is that?! These days, Adam forges forward with his astute commentary on the Big Bash & Fox Sports. Something I realised sitting next to him at lunch, is what a generous, welcoming person Adam is. A true sportsman and great ambassador for cricket and Australia. Someone to truly look up to as a person. The function sponsors, Suncorp, put us together for the obvious reasons, but I was honoured to have been so lucky with the seating arrangements. Can you really have Two many Gilly's? Funny, when you shop for a car, you expect to pay more for new than old and you certainly expect to receive value for your choice.
A second hand car can have its perks but more often than not -if you buy old- you get old. Old has old technology, needs maintenance, shows wear & tear, usually needs money spent on it (which is most certainly expensive & stressful). There is nothing like those new car feels- flawless presentation, several years warranty, limited costs for maximum time, smells nice, looks nice & runs even nicer. Compare buying an old house to an old car and it comes with old paint, clunky plumbing, well used kitchens & bathrooms, old technology in all fittings and nothing has warranties (subject to age). At New Home Solutions we know the process of upgrading or renovating any number of items to “new” is extremely expensive. So, do I want to buy old or Build new? Something to investigate... I had the great pleasure of attending the Townsville Rugby launch as one of the codes sponsors. And was lucky enough to be seated next to our guest of honour, George Smith, who any sports follower would immediately know as the ex-Wallaby flanker who holds all the records!
Amazingly, should he go on to play 2019, that will be 20 years at Super Rugby level. This is such a high achievement in sporting record, skill, toughness & longevity. Well done to you George…And GO THE REDS! |
